Currently we are using the free version to run a server that supports up to 8 people.
We've done the research on the website, and determined that (apparently) Ventrilo only likes to allow paying clients to have more than 8 users connected to a server. We've also had trouble finding out how to pay for this version-- as apparently, only businesses that have plans for more than 1000 slots can purchase this version.
So my question is this: How does a clan/guild that has more than 8 people use ventrilo?
I mean, obviously your 8-person cap isn't for technical reasons. It must be money-motivated. Yet, unless you are a business, there doesn't seem to be a way to even pay for a version with more slots!
So forgive me for being blunt, but what on earth is the incentive to not simply just go to another client like teamspeak at this point? I've been a loyal ventrilo fan for years-- I'd hate to have to let this great piece of software go due to my own ignorance.
Tell me there is another way?
