Long connect time

Ok when i connect to my ventrilo server which i host off another pc on my network it takes like 4-5 seconds to connect to it for me. my buddies get righ tin when they hit connect. why does it take me so long if its on my lan ?

are you behind a hub? note: a hub not a switch.

hub ? im behind a router. idk if thats a hub or not.

most new routers use switching technology, so that negates my question about a hub. Sometimes hubs take a few seconds to find machines on the network because they poll all ports, where as a switch "knows" which machine is on which port.
