Hi,
I just recently installed Ventrillo server onto my computer.
The only problem is that I cannot connect it through my computer's external IP address (69.133.___.___), it always says 'unable to connect to server'.
I can connect fine through the LAN connection, (192.168.0.2) it's just that nobody outside can connect. Also, in the server it says...
"Accepting connection on these interface(s)
1. 192.168.0.2
2. 127.0.0.1
I can't even connect to myself
Here's what ive tried so far...
YES, I have tried port forwarding on my router with no success. (port 3874)
ive tried switching the connection so that NO router was being used with no success either using the external ip. internal works fine. What am I doing wrong?

I think I have same problem, when someone wants to connect to my server I get these msg's:
MSG_CONN: ID 1, IP <IP Here>, Accepted. <8192,131072> <8192,131072>
NET: ID 1, Disconnect, 10054.
MSG_ABORT: ID 1, <IP here> aborted.
I do have dynamic IP but my router forwarding is turned on.
I dont know what I am doing wrong..

If you running this on windows, make sure you have your windows firewall off. This would drop the connections like you speak of. Let me know if that works.

I would turn off all the software firewall applications you are running along with windows ones. Then I would direct you to www.whatismyip.com (http://www.whatismyip.com/) and make sure that is the IP you are giving to them and not your local 192.168.*.* address.
Make sure that you correctly forwarded port 3784 for tcp/udp and it's enabled. Once this is done, let us know if you are still having problems.

I tryed everything but it wont work... :(
I also tryed to create a TeamSpeak server and then everything was okay.
I don't know whats the problem.
But maybe its becouse I am using a Router which dosn't have Port forwarding but it has NAPT instead. Maybe thats the problem?
Router: SpeedTouch 510

NAPT or NAT? I'm not exactly sure what NAPT is but NAT is just internet sharing, so that has nothing to do with it. Did you try to set your PC as the DMZ host? Not sure if that router has the option.

Didnt find anything similar with DMZ..
But as I said, TeamWork is working fine when i set IP forwarding (at least I think its IP forwarding) in NAPT option menu.
Anyway I am using ADSL Modem (Router) SpeedTouch 510
Then connection goes to a swich and then it comes to my pc.
Maybe its not working becouse I have swich? But why does TeamSpeak work fine then?
When I'll get some more free time I will try to do it - without swich, and see what happens.

I have the same problem. You'd think all those networking classes would help in these situations, but apparently not :(

Your switch should have nothing to do with it. Switches just share the internet connection. Make sure you have port forward 3784 to your ip as TCP & not udp. This may be the problem. The only other thing I can suggest is getting a 3rd party host for your ventrilo server.

why would UDP matter? I have both set, and unless I use DMZ (which I'd prefer not to do at all) it refuses to work, I cry at night.

I've already tryed port forwarding, disabling xp firewall and disabling zone alarm.
Teamspeak does not work either through the external but LAN ip works fine.
There is one thing that may be the problem though...
-I have a computer with a router, which forwards to another router, which is the computer i'm using.
-So, basically i'm behind a double router firewall i think.
-Does this mean I have to configure both of teh firewalls for port forwarding to make this darn thing work?

Yes.

Ok, finally I got it working. It turns out that I did have to configure both routers (thx Patrick).
What I did was find my default gateway by using ipconfig /all in the command prompt, and using that ip to connect to the router (http://192.168.0.1), then you can configure port forwarding from there since your connected to the router.
Thanks for all your help
