First of all, i would like to say i am new to networking, ip's and things. I read all through the server setup and faq's, but didnt see anything about networks.

I use the client all the time for gaming and such, but lately i have also been using it for regular conversations with friends. I dont like using my clans gaming vent server for this, but i cant figure out how to set up a server on my computer either. When i run the server, it just says

"now accepting connections on these interfaces:

1: 192.168.1.100
2: 127.0.0.1

Ready_"

I know that wont work as the IP to put into the ventrilo client since that is just my network IP, not my acyual internet IP. So what do i do? i tried just putting my internet ip into the client, but i couldnt connect. And what port would i use?

You need to configure Port Forwarding in your router. You'll need to read your router's docs for how to set that up. Not all routers call it Port Forwarding, so you may need to figure out what your router calls them.

application: vent
start: 3784
end: 3784
protocol: both
ip: your internal ip, 192.168.1.100, im guessing (so put 100 in the box)
and then check the enable

I'm trying to set up a server also. I have the same brand amd type of router as eclipsegst303, but i think he may have a Higher verison. I have already gone in and enabled port forwarding with what Brandon suggested above, but still only computers in my network are able to connect. My server is also located on my Wireless laptop running windows XP home ed. I dont have any firewall except for the one built into my router, and the one built into windows. Once i get the time I will try to resurect our older computer with windows 98 and test my server there.
